Niang, 17, had been linked with a number of sides throughout Europe, including Everton, but Caen announced on Tuesday that he had completed a move to Milan.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Stade Malherbe Caen would like to thank M'Baye Niang for what he has done for the club during his four years here at SMC.

" M'Baye Niang today signed a three-year contract with AC Milan (Serie A). Stade Malherbe Caen wish him success at his new club and in his personal life."

Adriano Galliani, Milan's vice-president, had earlier revealed that Niang is set to be included in the first-team squad this season.

"The boy seems a good player, which explains why we have been watching him for several years," he said. "If we sign him, he'll go into the first team despite his tender age."

Niang has already represented France at Under-21 level.
